The Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf is a free and easy crochet pattern that is made to measure, size inclusive and designed to be intuitive and beginner friendly.
When we released the Fast, Easy, Done in a Day Crochet Scarf, we were not expecting the amount of traffic to view this pattern as we received! It was something we shared on our blog because we had to get together a fast holiday gift that was under $15, and we thought others may be in the same boat too!
This pattern is free when you access it online through your desktop or mobile device. We rely on ad revenue to meet the costs of running this website and coffee donations at https://ko-fi.com/kiksandjackcrochet. Thanks for supporting us and allowing us to keep providing free online patterns.
After the success of the blog post, we realized we probably should design more “quick win” projects, that crafters can crochet up quickly. No matter the season, we always need unique, budget friendly and beautiful birthday, anniversary, mothers’ day, fathers’ day, thank you and grad gifts!
So the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf was born 🙂 We had more time to crochet this (we literally had a day for our previous scarf pattern) and as it was for our own personal use we added the following:
Tassels.
Stitch changes.
Oversized Length.
Oversized Width (think blanket scarf!)
This could probably have be done in 1 day of intensive crocheting, but we decided to call it the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf!
If you love oversized scarves this is the pattern for you. When you open up this scarf, it is wide enough to act as a small shawl that can be wrapped around your shoulders. Using a lighter weight yarn (eg worsted vs chunky) will ensure the scarf doesn’t get too thick and it will allow you wrap it comfortably around your neck a number of times.
We used a very budget friendly weight 4/ medium/ worsted yarn called Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarns. Each skein is 1020 yards! We love the stretch and squish in this yarn and after it’s wrapped a few times around your neck, it’s sooo cozy on a cold day!
In terms of length, you can customize it as you go. The great thing about crocheting a scarf width wise from left to right (versus length wise) is you can decide on the length at the very end. Sometimes you have all the intentions of making an oversized blanket scarf and then you decide to cut it short, join it together and make an infinity scarf (we tell you how to do this below).
Lets get started on the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf!
DESCRIPTION of the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf
The Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf is a gorgeous scarf that uses primarily two simple stitches. A basic double crochet stitch and an easy yet stunning mesh stitch. This is also primarily made up from double crochets.
The two stitches give the scarf beautiful drape that allows you to wrap it a number of times around your neck. We designed ours to be wide and long so that we could achieve the oversized blanket scarf look, however you can easily customize this scarf to your own dimensions. We also show you options you can take to customize your scarf with tassels, and to turn it into a shorter infinity scarf.
The Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf is a free and easy crochet pattern available as a size inclusive made to measure pattern. It is an intuitive, beginner friendly crochet pattern.
CROCHET GAUGE
Using a hook size 5.5 (US size 9), approximately 12 double crochet across and 8 rows of double crochet in 4″ x 4″ (10 cm x 10 cm).
Note the pattern is made to measure and can accommodate for different crochet gauges. However if you are new to crochet, you may want to select a yarn with a similar gauge to this version.

Yarn brand: Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarns Weight 4/Worsted/Medium. 454g per skein and 1020 yards (or 932 m) per skein. Colour used is Quartz.
Another great alternative that is also budget friendly is Red Heart Soft yarn. I am currently working with this yarn on a mesh sweater and I love how accessible this yarn is, cost friendly and soft it is.
Approximately 0.6 skeins or 275 grams and 618 yards (or 565 m) used for Kiks + Jacks version with a finished width of approximately 20 inches and a finished length of approximately 47 inches – not including the 4 inch tassels.
5.5 mm crochet hook (US size 10). We use many different crochet hooks and some of them can get quite pricey – but if you are a beginner and looking for some great budget friendly ergonomic crochet hooks try these from Amazon. It comes in a set and the grip and the shape is amazing for beginner crocheters. We love these and recommend them to all our beginner (and advanced) crochet friends.
Measuring Tape. We use a super budget friendly measuring tape. Make sure it has cm and inches (not all patterns are written with both). We are always crocheting on the go so we like our tapes small and compact and we put one in our design area, one in our bag and one in our car. Retractable works best! We use these super cheap mini measuring tapes from Amazon (we love the pastel colours).
Stitch Markers. You may not need stitch markers for this pattern. If you want to colour block your scarf or plan out your stripes however they can be helpful. We use these locking crochet stitch markers from Amazon and these stitch markers that do not lock. They are cheap and colourful.
Blocking Pins. You should buy more pins than you think you need. If you are going to take the time to block don’t skimp on the pins. We like T shaped stainless steel pins that don’t rust when they get wet. We love these blocking T pins from Amazon and the tin means the pins don’t fall out on the floor.
Yarn Needle. If you want to sew your ends together you may want to use a yarn needle. Buy blunt needles with large eyes for yarn. We use these Yarn Needles because we like the convenient bottle, they are budget friendly and we get lots of them!
Scissors. We love these thread snippers because they are cheap, we get two of them AND they come with a case (some don’t). Don’t carry these without the case! After you use thread snippers you won’t want to snip with scissors.

SUMMARY of CONSTRUCTION for the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf
The Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf is made by crocheting a foundation chain the size of your desired width. We will then move into two stitch patterns and repeat this pattern until we reach the desired length.
For this Kiks + Jack version we added tassels and edging to the scarf, however you can customize this. Other customizations include increasing the width and sewing the ends together to make an infinity scarf. We also crocheted this scarf wide so that it becomes a blanket scarf and can be used as a small shawl when open.
This is a beginner friendly made to measure pattern that can accommodate different gauges.

Crochet Pattern Instructions for the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf
Crochet the Main Panel of your Scarf
Chain a length equal to the desired width and count the number of stitches at the same time. Note depending on your gauge it will stretch out a little more after a few rows.
For Kiks + Jack Crochet’s version we chained a width of approximately 20 inches. This width is great for a blanket scarf, as when you open it can be wrapped around the shoulders like a small shawl.
Kiks and Jack counted 62 chains to achieve an approximate width of 20 inches.
Increase the number of chains to ensure you have a multiple of 3. If you already have a multiple of 3 then keep it as is.
Kiks and Jack increased the chain to 63 to achieve a multiple of 3
Row 1: ch3, dc into the 4th ch from the hook, dc across the row until the end. Turn
Row 2: ch3, dc into the second st, dc across the row until the end. Turn
Row 3-4: repeat row 2
This is a good time to check that you are happy with the width of your scarf. Sometimes the yarn stretches out more or less than you expect, and sometimes you change your mind regarding the width after a few rows. It’s important to check the width again before you go any further.
If your yarn is more stretchy than expected and/or you want to reduce the width, we suggest you frog (unravel) and start again reducing the number of chains you originally crocheted. Or if you decide you want to increase the width we suggest you frog and start again increasing the number of chains. It’s better to get this width right at the start and it will depend on your gauge and what you like! Make sure you follow all the instructions regarding multiples of 3.
Row 5: ch3, 1dc in 1st st, 1dc in next st, *ch3, sk 3st, 1dc in each of next 3st, rep from * across until end with 1dc in top of tch. Turn
Row 6: ch3, 2dc in 1st ch-3 sp, *ch3, 3dc in next ch-3 sp, rep from * until last ch-3 sp, ch3, sk next 2dc, 1dc in top of tch. Turn
Row 7-8: repeat row 6
Row 9: ch3, *2dc in 1st ch-3sp, 3dc in next 3st, rep from * until end with a dc at top of tch
Row 9 is effectively a row of double crochets.
Row 10: ch3, 1dc in BLO until end, dc at top of tch
Row 11-13: repeat row 10
By crocheting into the BLO you should see your double crochets are raised like a ridge.
Repeat rows 5-13 until you reach your desired length. End on a row 13.
Do not fasten off.
Crochet around the Edge of your Scarf
Kiks + Jack Crochet highly recommends blocking your scarf. Blocking your scarf will set the panel to the shape and size you want and give it a polished look.
We block our scarf by pinning it to an old yoga mat and manipulating the shape and edges. We then spray it with water focusing on the edges and ensuring it is well saturated. Do not remove the pins until the panels are completely bone dry.
To neaten the edges you can single crochet around your scarf. Here are some instructions to help:
i) Use your working yarn, turn, ch1 and start your single crochets around the entire edge
ii) When you get to a corner, sc into the last st, ch2, sc back into the same st then continue to sc down the next edge.
iii) Single crochet evenly into each stitch/row and you can place two single crochets when you reach a larger space created by a mesh stitch. The key is to be even.
iv) When you reach the start, you can slip stitch to the 1st st. Fasten off.
Optional Instructions for the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf
We wanted to add two options for the Fast, Easy, Done in 2 Days Crochet Scarf.
Infinity Scarf Option: Sometimes we want to stop crocheting and keep the scarf short. We may prefer a shorter design, we may have run out of yarn or time, or we may have simply become bored and eager to start another project. Sometimes the scarf may be too short and you are concerned it will fall off (into a big wet puddle). Infinity scarves are joined at the two ends and they are great for a fuss free wear. Using a yarn needle and matching yarn, seam the two ends together. You could also crochet the two ends together using a slip stitch. Generally we like our infinity scarf to be wrapped twice and up close around our neck.
Tassels Option: If you are planning to use your scarf with the ends hanging down, you may want to add tassels. (We have to confess that we typically crochet tassels on one side only. We like to wrap oversized scarves in a way that allows us to tuck one end into the other – a bit like a tie – and it’s easier to do without tassels and gives us cleaner lines).
There are many ways to attach tassels to your scarf, however here is one easy method that gives a great casual look.
(i) Calculate how long you would like your tassels (eg. 4 inches). Double this number (ie. 8 inches)
(ii) Cut yarn that is equal to double your desired tassel length (ie. 8 inches). You can cut a hard piece of card with the desired dimensions and wrap yarn around it multiple times to speed up this process.
(iii) Take a few strands (check the desired thickness of each tassel), fold them in half and twist the end to form a loop. Insert loop first through one of the holes/gaps at the end of your scarf and pull the ends through the loop and tighten.
(iv) Repeat step (iii) so that you have even tassels along the base of your scarf.
(v) Trim your tassels if required to ensure they are even.
