Learning to crochet a bra is super practical! When you have a cotton skein lying around, instead of reaching for your next potholder pattern (and we do love potholders), try crocheting a bra. There are so many great crochet tops that require a matching bra. Net tops like the Nusa Mesh Net Crochet Sweater or off the shoulder tops like the Sea to Sky Laced Short Sleeve are styled beautifully with a perfectly matching bra OR a fun contrasting bra.
Buying one bra to match one top can be expensive – especially if you are obsessed with crocheting tops!! Purchasing a bra just so one bra strap can match the left side of your “off the shoulder top” may seem a little indulgent. Learning to crochet a bra with scrap yarn is so much more affordable! And fun!
Its best to use a strong cotton for better support! We have designed bras using acrylic yarn like The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top and they are beautiful and soft, but they have a little less support than strong cotton.
For this bra we used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in White. As we were planning to match it with the Nusa Mesh Net Crochet Sweater we found some scrap yarn from the sweater, selected the blue and used it to trim the bra. If we wanted a bra that was more discreet and matching, we would have used the same yarn as the sweater!

Yarn for Bra: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton from Yarnspirations. Weight 4/Aran/Worsted. 400g skein and 674 yards (or 616). Approximately 1 skeins (actual weight will depend on cup size although less than a quarter was used for our A cup size). Colour used is White
Yarn for Trimming: Any cotton yarn weight 4/Aran/Worsted.
4.0 mm crochet hook (US size 6). We use many different crochet hooks and if you are looking for some great budget friendly ergonomic crochet hooks try these from Amazon. It comes in a set and the grip and the shape is amazing for beginner crocheters. However our absolute favourite, slightly more pricey crochet hooks are clover crochet hooks. You can buy then in a set or individually.
Measuring Tape. We use a super budget friendly measuring tape. Make sure it has cm and inches (not all patterns are written with both). We are always crocheting on the go so we like our tapes small and compact and we put one in our design area, one in our bag and one in our car. Retractable works best! We use these super cheap mini measuring tapes from Amazon.
Stitch Markers. We use these locking crochet stitch markers from Amazon and these stitch markers that do not lock. They are cheap and colourful.
Blocking Pins. You should buy more pins than you think you need. If you are going to take the time to block don’t skimp on the pins. We like T shaped stainless steel pins that don’t rust when they get wet. We love these blocking T pins from Amazon and the tin means the pins don’t fall out on the floor.
Yarn Needle. Buy blunt needles with large eyes for yarn. We use these Yarn Needles because we like the convenient bottle, they are budget friendly and we get lots of them!
Scissors. We love these thread snippers because they are cheap, we get two of them AND they come with a case (some don’t). Don’t carry these without the case! After you use thread snippers you won’t want to snip with scissors.

The One Hour Easy Crochet Bra is made by first crocheting two breast cups. You will crochet a simple edge around the cup using contrasting yarn. The breast cups will be joined using a simple chain and the back tie strings. Neck string ties will be crocheted to secure the cups at the top and around the neck. The string ties will be threaded through the top of the bra cups to secure.
The instructions for the entire bra will not be based on standard sizing and will be provided to allow customization to suit all body types.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS for The One Hour Easy Crochet Bra
Crochet the Bra Cups (Make 2)
Chain a length from under your breast to your nipple.
For the Kiks + Jack version we chained 12
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across until you reach the last ch. Place 3sc into the last ch. Place a stitch marker in the centre of these 3sc. You will now crochet on the OTHER side of the chain (you are crocheting around the chain), sc to the end. Turn
Row 2: ch 1, sc back up the chain until you reach the stitch marker (the middle stitch of the 3sc). Remove the stitch marker and place 3sc into this stitch. Place the stitch marker in the centre of the 3sc. Continue down the other side, sc to the end. Turn.
Tip: A good way to think of the cup designs is crocheting a rainbow from side to side over the initial ch 12.
Continue row 2 until the cup is big enough to cover the breast.
Fasten off.
Crochet the Bra Cup Edging
We will now add a contrasting yarn colour to the entire edge of the cup.
Use the second contrasting yarn colour and attach to the side of the cup.
ch 1, sc back up the chain until you reach the stitch marker (the middle stitch of the 3sc). Remove the stitch marker and place 3sc into this stitch. Continue down the other side, sc to the end, 3sc in the last st, sc across the base of the cup, 2sc in the last st, sl st to tch to join.
You should now have a contrasting yarn colour around the edge of the entire cup.
Fasten off.
Assemble the Bra
ch 75 (this will be the tie string for the right side of your bra)
Do not fasten off.
Take the right cup and attach the ch 75 to the right corner of the right cup (at the base) using a sc, continue to sc across the base of the right cup.
When you get to the other end of the right cup base, attach the right corner base of the left cup, sc across the base of the left cup.
When you get to the other end of the left cup base, ch 75 (this will be the tie string for the left side of your bra)
Fasten off.
Optional customization: You can repeat the above if you would like a double bra string and a slightly wider bra band. It will provide more support and allow you to tie the bra tighter with the double bra strings.
Crochet the Neck Tie Strings (make 2)
ch 100. Fasten off.
Weave one neck tie string through the top of one cup by threading it through the back of the cup at the halfway point of the tie string so that two strings come up to the neck together. Weave the other neck tie string through the top of the other cup. You should be able to tie the four strings together at the neck.
