The New Lacy Tank Top Crochet Pattern is a design by Wan @knitcroaddict.
KnitcroAddict is definitely a Kiks + Jack Crochet favourite! We found KnitcroAddict in the winter when we were looking for cozy sweaters and cardigans. However it’s her delicate crochet lace work on tanks and tops that we now want to crochet all the time!
You will absolutely love her latest design – the New Lacy Tank Top Crochet Pattern. Check out her original version in a beautiful yellow mustard colour here. We knew we wanted to style ours with crochet cardigans that may be colourful, so we kept ours neutral.
We also went up a size because we wanted that slightly oversized look and kept some of the hemming raw to give it that gorgeous deconstructed look with a lot of drape.
Styling the New Lacy Tank Top Crochet Pattern
The New Lacy Tank Top Crochet Pattern is a crochet top that you will get a lot of use out of! At first it looks like a summer pattern – and it is – a beautiful draping summer tank. However, this tank is perfect for the colder months too. There is one thing we all come to realize pretty quickly as a crocheter in the winter time. You can’t wear a super warm first layer, when you pile on the gorgeous heavy crochet cardigans made from super bulky yarn. And who doesn’t want to pile on ALL their crochet in the colder months?
The trick is to pull out some crochet tops made from finer weight yarn as your first layer, possibly a light crochet cardigan or vest as your second layer, and if necessary rug up in a thicker crochet blanket sweater when you step outside as your third layer…OK I admit I have actually piled on a crochet scarf and crochet toque on top of that too!
This tank has been the perfect first layer in the fall now that the weather wants us to wear second and third layers. If you live in a place that uses a lot of central heating, this is perfect when you are constantly stepping in from the cold outside to the heated inside. We have styled it here with the Campbell Everyday Crochet Cardigan.
In the summer we plan to wear this top all the time! Over jeans, shorts, skirts and dresses! We will definitely be teaming this with the Manley Striped Crochet Fitted Skirt.
The Crochet Yarn
For this Kiks + Jack version, we used one of our favourite cotton yarns called Millamia. You can purchase it from Lovecrafts. It is incredibly soft and made from 100% cotton. This is probably one of the softest, all cotton yarns and we love to use it for tanks and t-shirts.
It is a weight 2/sport yarn and we used a hook size 3.5. It gave the top a great drape and was fast to work up. We also used this yarn in the Magnolia Lacy Crochet Bra Top.
Pattern Tips and Customizations
We didn’t make any customizations for this version, however we are thinking of making a longer version for the summer in a larger size. It would make a great summer throw over at the beach! We would definitely suggest using a light weight yarn so that you can achieve that delicate lacy crochet look that Wan is so famous for.
If you are experienced enough to customize a different gauge and yarn weight for a pattern, then it would be great to try this with an acrylic yarn in a slightly heavier weight for a totally different vibe.
