The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top is a free and easy crochet pattern that is made to measure, size inclusive and designed to be intuitive and beginner friendly.
The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top is one of the most requested Kiks + Jack tops by friends. It’s fast to make up and super fun to make. Everything is crocheted in pieces…the cups, the band, the ties. As each piece takes shape (and is super fast to crochet) – it’s incredibly rewarding to see everything come together so quickly.
The construction of the two bra cups, along with the intricate crocheted band is quick and easy to crochet together and it’s just so rewarding to see the final product after seaming it. Even if you would never wear a bra top on its own, we highly recommend you try to crochet one just for the fun factor! And you may be surprised how often you reach for it under mesh tops (crocheted of course) and slightly sheer sweaters.
We are trying to keep all our crochet patterns free for everyone, when you access them online. We meet the costs of running this website through coffee donations at https://ko-fi.com/kiksandjackcrochet and ad revenue. When you buy us a cup of coffee, you buy us a cup of motivation. Thank you for keeping us motivated and inspired every day to keep designing free crochet patterns for you.
The best part about crocheting your own bra top is that it is uniquely yours, part of the slow fashion movement and has a part of your love crocheted into it!
When we designed this top, we first pictured it with a long maxi skirt. However on photography day it ended up matched with some distressed baggy jeans and it looked great! A friend designed some matching crocheted bottoms, and her daughter wears it as a bikini on the beach – the sunbathing type…probably best not to try swimming in acrylic :).
This would also look amazing under a long sleeved mesh crochet top (try this one The Nusa Mesh Net Long Sleeve Crochet Sweater) , an oversized cardigan like the Campbell Everyday Crochet Cardigan or an open kimono silky shirt with a pair of denim shorts!
We typically use cotton to make my bra tops, however for this bralette we tried a softer acrylic yarn. We love the softness of this beautiful yarn by Yarnspirations. It is a 100% acrylic and we have used this yarn before in my Dusty Pink Rose Short Sleeve Sweater. You can find all the details in the section “Crochet Materials”.
If you can’t find this yarn, consider using any acrylic yarn with a weight of 4 (medium/worsted). For this pattern try to stick to acrylic, however you can check out this free pattern for a bra top using cotton: The Magnolia Lacy Crochet Bra Top. It has a slightly different look, feel and style.
Let’s get started on the Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top!
DESCRIPTION of The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top
The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top is a bra top with a wide laced band and simple cups with laced edging. It features a tie string design at the back and at the neck allowing you to secure it for best fit. The band features an intricate scalloped design which is repeated around the edging of the cup. This is a free and easy crochet pattern that can be modified for all cup sizes.
CROCHET MEASUREMENTS & SIZES
The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top pattern instructions are made to measure, based on your required measurements.
Kiks + Jack Crochet will always try to write patterns that are “made to measure” (versus graded sized patterns) so that crocheters can get the wonderful benefits of making a garment that fits perfectly.
To use this pattern you will need the following measurements and you should write them down for easy reference:
Bottom of Breast to Nipple: Measure from the lowest part of your breast up to the centre of your nipple
Width of Breast: Measure the width of your breast at it’s widest, from one side over the breast to the other side
Below your Chest/Bust: Measure around BELOW your chest/bust. Do not draw the tape too tightly.
CROCHET GAUGE
Using a 4mm crochet hook, approximately 16 stitches and 10 rows of single crochet in 4″ x 4″ (10 cm x 10 cm).
Note the Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top pattern is made to measure and can accommodate for different crochet gauges. However try to select a yarn with a similar gauge to this version.

We only recommend products that we love and that we use. Thank you for supporting our small business.
Yarn brand: Patons Canadiana by Yarnspirations. Weight 4/Aran/Worsted. 100g skein and 205 yards (or 187m). Approximately 1-2 skeins. My bra is sized for an XS and used 130m which is approximately 70% of the skein. Color used is Pale Teal.
4.0 mm crochet hook (US size 6). We use many different crochet hooks and if you are looking for some great budget friendly ergonomic crochet hooks try these from Amazon. It comes in a set and the grip and the shape is amazing for beginner crocheters. However our absolute favourite, slightly more pricey crochet hooks are clover crochet hooks. You can buy then in a set or individually. We started our collection just purchasing the size 4 ,5 and 6.
Measuring Tape. We use a super budget friendly measuring tape. Make sure it has cm and inches (not all patterns are written with both). We are always crocheting on the go so we like our tapes small and compact and we put one in our design area, one in our bag and one in our car. Retractable works best! We use these super cheap mini measuring tapes from Amazon.
Stitch Markers. We use these locking crochet stitch markers from Amazon and these stitch markers that do not lock. They are cheap and colourful.
Blocking Pins. You should buy more pins than you think you need. If you are going to take the time to block don’t skimp on the pins. We like T shaped stainless steel pins that don’t rust when they get wet. We love these blocking T pins from Amazon and the tin means the pins don’t fall out on the floor.
Yarn Needle. Buy blunt needles with large eyes for yarn. We use these Yarn Needles because we like the convenient bottle, they are budget friendly and we get lots of them!
Scissors. We love these thread snippers because they are cheap, we get two of them AND they come with a case (some don’t). Don’t carry these without the case! After you use thread snippers you won’t want to snip with scissors.

SUMMARY of CONSTRUCTION for The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top
The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top is made by first crocheting two breast cups. We will then crochet the band that fits below the chest area. The breast cups will be seamed on to the band using a yarn needle and matching yarn. Next, string ties will be crocheted to secure the band and the cups at the back and neck. The string ties will be threaded through the bra to secure.

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS for The Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top
Crochet the Bra Cup (Make 2)
Chain a length equal to your “Bottom of Breast to Nipple Measurement“
For the Kiks + Jack Crochet version we chained 12.
Row 1: ch1, sc in 1st ch, sc in each ch across until you reach the last ch. Place 3sc into the last ch. Place a stitch marker in the centre of these 3sc. You will now crochet on the OTHER side of the chain (you are crocheting around the chain), sc to the end. Turn
Row 2: ch 1, sc back up the chain until you reach the stitch marker (the middle stitch of the 3sc). Remove the stitch marker and place 3sc into this stitch. Place the stitch marker in the centre of the 3sc. Continue down the other side, sc to the end. Turn.
Tip: A good way to think of the cup designs is crocheting from side to side over the initial ch 12.
Continue row 2 until the cup is big enough to cover the breast or equal to your “width of breast measurement”. Turn.
Tip: It is better to place the cup over your breast to determine how many row 2s you should crochet (versus using the width of breast measurement). Some like a lot of coverage and some like less. Your preference may or may not be less than your width of breast measurement.
Don’t fasten off.
Crochet the Bra Cup Edging
Row 1: ch 2, *sc into 1st st, sk2, 5dc into next st, rep from * to last st
Tip: If you get to the top of the bra cup (where you have placed a stitch marker) and you need to start turning to the other side before you start the next 5dc cluster stitch, you can place 3sc to turn. Alternatively you can start the 5dc cluster stitch after the top stitch. Feel free to crochet what looks best as this is the last row.
You may find you do not have enough stitches to finish your stitch pattern for Row 1. You can finish off with a 1-3 dcs in the last stitch so that it looks even to the base of the cup.
Fasten off.
Remember you need to crochet two identical bra cups.
Crochet the Bra Band
Chain a length that is equal to your “Below your Chest Bust Measurement” minus 5 inches and count the stitches at the same time.
Wrap this chain below your breasts. The ends are not supposed to meet and there should be a gap. You will be adding back tie strings later.
Make sure your chain is a multiple of 10. If it is not a multiple of 10 then increase or decrease the chains (whichever is closer) so it is a multiple of 10.
Row 1: ch1, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in each ch across. Turn.
Row 2: ch1, 1sc in 1st st, *skip 4ch, 9tc in next ch, skip 4ch, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * to last st. Turn.
Row 3: ch4, 1tc in first st, *ch3, 1sc in the centre st of the 9tc cluster, ch3, skip 4st, 2tc in next st, rep from * to last st ending with 2tc in last st. Turn.
For row 3, we are placing 2 tc between each 9 tc cluster and 1sc at the top of of each 9 tc cluster. Both will be connected by a ch3.
Row 4: ch1, 1sc in sp between first 2tc, *skip the 3ch, 9tc in next st, skip the 3ch, 1 sc in the sp between 2tc, rep from * to last st and end with 1sc in sp between last tc and tch. Turn.
Tip: Look at row 3. We have 2tc crocheted into the same stitch that gives it a “V” shape. We also have a sc at the top of the peacock fan. For Row 4 we will crochet 1sc into the space of the “V” shape tc and we will crochet 9tr into the sc at the top of the peacock fan.
Row 5: repeat row 3
Row 6: repeat row 4
Fasten off.
Crochet Tie Strings
Back Tie Strings (make 2): ch 70. Fasten off.
Neck Tie Strings (make 2): ch 100. Fasten off.
Assemble Cups and Band
Turn your band around so that the peacock fans are facing down and the sc row is at the top.
Place a stitch marker at the halfway point on the top of the band.
Take one of your cups and place the right side facing down on the right side of the band. Make sure the edge of the cup lines up with the stitch marker.
With a yarn needle and matching yarn, seam the first cup and the band together.
Repeat with the second cup making sure the edge of the cup lines up with the stitch marker on the other side.
Attach Tie Strings
Weave one back tie string through the end of the band. Weave the other back tie string through the other end of the band. You should be able to tie the two strings together to secure the band tightly.
Weave one neck tie string through the top of one cup. Thread it through the back of the cup at the halfway point of the tie string so that two strings come up to the neck together. Weave the other neck tie string through the top of the other cup. You should be able to tie the four strings together at the neck.
Finish & Celebrate the Bondi Beach Crochet Bra Top
Weave in all your ends.
